The Court of the Seven Seas
Stretching between the Tower of the Sun and the Court of Pacifica, the Court of the Seven Seas was lined with trees, benches, and statuaries. In the foreground is the statue Creation by Haig Patigian. In the background, the Tower of the Sun rises next to one of the many temporary installations that appeared throughout the island for performances.

PHOTOGRAPHY AT THE FAIR

The 1930s was an important decade for photography. Prior to 1930, Kodak was the primary camera producer and the first commercial color film came out in 1907. In 1932, the first Technicolor black and white movies were produced. Fuji Photo Film was founded in 1934 and was producing cameras as well as film by 1938. 1936 saw the development of Kodachrome, the first multi-layered color film. Also in 1936, 35mm SLR cameras were first designed. With all of these innovations, there was an abundance of photographs taken of the Golden Gate International Exposition by professional photographers as well as every day visitors.

While looking through Guest Curator Kathryn Ayres’s collection for postcards to feature in our exhibition, we came across some amazing photos of the art and people of the fair and would like to share these photos with you.
