ARTS AND ARCHITECTURE

Court of Reflections
The Court of Reflections, sitting between the International
Hall and the Food and Beverages Palace, was one of the more beautiful spots of the Fair. Named for the reflections in the placid waters of the Siesta Pool, the court featured statues like the Penguin Girl by Edgar Walter.
The Portals of the Pacific
The Portals of the Pacific appeared to be a single wall from a distance, but were actually a series of smaller walls that served as wind baffles. Visitors could walk between the walls into the Court of Honor, where the Tower of the Sun rose above the fair. For many people, this was the main entrance to the fair and the first sight from the ferry, pedestrian bridge, and elephant cars.

Entrance to the Court of Flowers
The temple compound that marked the entrance to the Court of Flowers featured two matching bas reliefs finished in gold. Shown here is the relief on the south wall, Paths of Darkness, by Lulu Hawkins Braghetta.

Wish You Were Here! Postcards from the Golden Gate International Exposition is presented by the Treasure Island Museum.

The California State Building
On the east side of the island, the California State Building was the official reception building of the fair. It contained offices, meeting rooms, auditoriums, and open air gardens. It bordered the Court of Nations and was decorated by the state seal and a mural by Lucien Labaudt, not visible here.
