SALLY RAND'S NUDE RANCH

Sally Rand shot to fame
when she crashed the exclusive pre-opening night party at the Chicago World's Fair of 1933, appearing as Lady Godiva on a white horse. Her resulting arrest for indecent exposure made the headlines, and upon her release she was immediately hired as the featured fan dancer in the Chicago fair's Café de la Paix.

She was arrested several more times on the same charges, and her fame increased with each arrest. By the time the Golden Gate International Exposition opened in 1939, Sally Rand owned a San Francisco nightclub called The Music Box, where she performed her fan and bubble dances. Although she did not perform on Treasure Island, she showed considerable business expertise.

Within its first six days of operation, Sally Rand's Nude Ranch drew in 63,449 patrons. There was no seating; patrons passed through the venue to peer through glass enclosures at topless cowgirls doing lasso tricks, feeding baby farm animals and playing badminton. Admission was 25 cents. Sally Rand is featured in three of these postcards. She is the only woman who is fully clothed.
